This is Episode Two of Canberra Conversations, an occasional podcast series on The Interpreter where I talk with some of the big names from the foreign policy and national security worlds in Australia's capital.

In Episode One, I spoke with Mike Pezzullo, Secretary of the Department of Immigration and Border Protection, who has now been confirmed as secretary of the powerful new Home Affairs Ministry. We’re grateful to the public sector news website, The Mandarin, for alerting their readers to the interview. The Fairfax papers also carried extensive quotes. You can find that interview here on The Interpreter, or you can subscribe to Lowy Institute podcasts on iTunes or wherever you find your podcasts.

In this edition, I talk with the Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Frances Adamson, about her life and career, the influences that shaped her, the media diet she consumes, as well as the challenges facing her department and the nation.
