Australia–China Track II Strategic Dialogue in Shanghai
The Lowy Institute co-convened an Australia–China Track II Strategic Dialogue with the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS) in Shanghai on Wednesday 9 April.
The Lowy Institute delegation was led by Executive Director Dr Michael Fullilove. The delegation included Lowy Institute scholars Richard McGregor, Susannah Patton and Sam Roggeveen, former Australian diplomat Peter Varghese and Greenmantle Director Alice Han.
The SIIS delegation was headed by its President, Dr Chen Dongxiao, and included participants from China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The convenor of the Dialogue was the Lowy Institute’s Senior Fellow for East Asia, Richard McGregor.
The Dialogue was both substantive and candid, covering the Australia-China relationship and bilateral and regional maritime and trade disputes.
The Dialogue was funded by the National Foundation for Australia–China Relations and was conducted under the Chatham House Rule.
The dialogue in Shanghai follows an Australian–China Track II Strategic Dialogue with SIIS that the Institute hosted in Sydney in November 2023.
