Dr David Orsmond has recently been appointed Professor of Economics at the Macquarie Business School. Until last year Dr Orsmond worked at the Reserve Bank of Australia, holding senior positions in the Financial Stability and Economic Analysis Departments. From 1992 to 2005 Dr Orsmond held several roles at the International Monetary Fund, including as Resident Representative in Ukraine, Mission Chief for the Solomon Islands, as well as working on economic stabilisation and technical assistance issues across many countries. Previously he was an economist at the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet. He has written on a range of topics, including regulatory policies in the financial sector, China and the Australian mining sector. He holds a PhD in economics from Duke University, having earlier completed a Bachelor of Economics at Sydney University and studies in international economic policy at the Kiel Institute for the World Economy.
