Lowy Institute researchers to serve on Defence White Paper Panel

The Executive Director of the Lowy Institute, Dr Michael Fullilove, today welcomed the appointment of two of the Institute's senior researchers to the expert advisory panel for the Australian Government’s 2015 Defence White Paper.

The Institute’s International Security Program Director, Rory Medcalf, and a Nonresident Senior Fellow, Rear Admiral (ret) James Goldrick AO, CSC, will serve on the six-member panel, announced recently by Prime Minister Tony Abbott and Defence Minister David Johnston.

The panel has been asked to provide independent input to the white paper process, including by challenging key assumptions and taking a lead in public consultations.

"The appointment of Mr Medcalf and Rear Admiral Goldrick is a mark of the Lowy Institute's contribution to the national debate on defence and security policy," said Dr Fullilove. "We're delighted our colleagues will be contributing to this important process."
