New Economists at the Lowy Institute

The Lowy Institute is pleased to announce two new appointments to its economic team.

Dr. Leon Berkelmans has been appointed as the Director of the International Economy Program.

Leon joins the Institute from the Reserve Bank of Australia. He also worked for three years at the Federal Reserve Board of Governors in Washington D.C. He has a PhD in economics from Harvard University and completed his undergraduate studies at the Australian National University, with a year on exchange to the University of Oxford.

Tristram Sainsbury has been appointed a Research Fellow in the G20 Studies Centre at the Lowy Institute. Prior to joining the Institute, Tristram was at the Australian Treasury where he worked on G20 policy, focusing on international financial architecture reform, financial regulation reform and G20 growth strategies. Tristram holds a Masters in Applied Economics from ANU and has completed undergraduate studies in Resource Economics at the University of Sydney.
