Panel discussion: Is monetary policy now ineffective?

Central banks have engaged in expansionary policy for many years now, yet inflation remains low. Why has this happened? Is monetary policy now ineffective, and if so, can anything be done to get inflation up again? On 15 August the Lowy Institute hosted a panel discussion with Reserve Bank of Australia Board member and Lowy Institute Non-Resident Fellow John Edwards, Nicki Hutley, Director at Urbis Consulting, and Edward Nelson, Professor at the University of Sydney (moderated by Lowy’s Director of the International Economics Program, Leon Berkelmans).
