Maurie McNarn
Biography

Major General McNarn was the Director of the Australian Defence Intelligence Organisation (DIO) from 2005 to 2008 and was concurrently Head of Strategic Operations Intelligence. He was the Australian National Commander for air, land and maritime forces in the Gulf, Iraq and Afghanistan in 2002-2003, including for the planning and conduct of the 2003 Iraq War. His military career also included the roles of Director General Joint Operational Plans (Strategic Command), Head of Training Command (Army) and Commandant of the Royal Military College, as well as service on the Golan Heights and in Lebanon with the UN.  He has extensive command experience and has served in Malaysia and Singapore.

Major General McNarn’s academic qualifications include a Master of Business Administration, Master of Defence (Strategic) Studies and Bachelor of Arts (Honours). He is a graduate of the Singapore Joint Command and Staff College and the Australian Defence College. He is currently the Executive Director (Operations) and an Adjunct Professor at the University of Queensland.  He is Chair or Director on several company Boards.
