Ian Macfarlane was Governor of the Reserve Bank of Australia from 1996 to 2006.

Ian Macfarlane was Governor of the Reserve Bank of Australia from 1996 to 2006. His background is as an economist and he is a Fellow of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia. Prior to joining the Bank in 1979, he worked at Monash University, Oxford University and the OECD in Paris.

Since leaving the Reserve Bank, Mr Macfarlane has become a Director of several Australian public companies, and is on the international advisory board of Goldman Sachs.
