Back to the future

Since 1991 there has been a proliferation of new theories regarding insurgency and counterinsurgency. In this article, entitled 'Back to the future: the enduring characteristics of insurgency and counterinsurgency', Mark O’Neill offers the view that many of these have little utility in understanding the current situation.
