  • Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe recently celebrated his 90th birthday in true dictator style, with festivities purported to cost more than US$1 million. Unemployment in the country is estimated at 80% and Zimbabwe ranks 172 on the Human Development Index. 
  • With the G20 Finance Ministers' meeting just concluded in Sydney, good time to rethink development issues and the  G20. This  Lowy Institute G20 Monitor is a good start.
  • Inspired by Humans of New York, a couple of Papua New Guinean photographers have started a Humans of Papua New Guinea initiative and have created a Facebook page to display their collection. There are some poignant and beautiful entries.
