Change in Asia

I'm grateful to Greg Sheridan for the reminder, in his weekend column, that big things are happening in Malaysia. Here's a blog post about Anwar Ibrahim's recent travels to India, which reinforces Sheridan's message that Anwar aims to lead a secular, liberal government.

On the flipside of radical Asian change, here's an anecdotal indicator that North Korea is slipping toward famine (see also this report I linked to last week). A respected American Asia-watcher recently told the Lowy Institute that Korean unification could be far nearer than we think. If the regime falls due to food shortages, the humanitarian crisis will be colossal, with the geopolitical subtext even more fraught than in Myanmar.
