Climate shock therapy

This coming Sunday is the 10th of October or 10/10/10, which has been marked as a 'Global Day of doing' by the UK-based 10:10 Campaign, whose aim is to cut carbon emissions by 10% a year, starting in 2010.

Put aside the practical aspects of this ambition, which, according to Roger Pielke, would require the construction of about one nuclear power plant per day. Rather, pause for a moment to view, if you dare, the video produced by the 10:10 campaign to promote its day of action. Be warned: it's shocking and rather tasteless, which is why I haven't embedded it. As you'll see from the NY Times' climate blog, the video caused widespread outrage and 10:10 has issued an apology.

Interesting to note that the screenwriter for the video was Richard Curtis (Four Wedding and a Funeral, Bridget Jones' Diary), whose politics seem to be stuck permanently in a smug undergraduate phase.
