Cheng is an M&A partner at King & Wood Mallesons who specialises in helping clients navigate complex legal, commercial and regulatory landscapes in telecommunications, technology and infrastructure.

He has been a key telecoms advisor to Telstra for over 2 decades. In 2014, he led the team advising Telstra on the renegotiation of its landmark agreements with NBN Co, under which Telstra agreed to sell copper and HFC assets to NBN Co to support the rollout by NBN Co of its National Broadband Network using an optimised multi-technology model.

In addition to advising clients on major IT projects, he brings his extensive experience in technology and outsourcing to assist both buy-side and sell-side clients in M&A transactions.

Cheng’s infrastructure practice is focussed on defence, transport and energy. He has acted for successful bidders in many major transport infrastructure and defence projects in Australia.

Cheng has been consistently recognised by surveys as one of the leading technology lawyers in his field over many years. In 2015, he was ranked Best Lawyers as its Melbourne Telecommunications Lawyer of the Year. He is also ranked in Band 1 in TMT Chambers Global Guide 2015 and as a Leading Individual in TMT by the Legal 500.
