Daniela Gavshon
Daniela Gavshon is Australia director at Human Rights Watch. Based in Sydney, Gavshon works to build Human Rights Watch’s profile in Australia and regularly briefs journalists and policy makers on human rights and Australia’s foreign policy. Gavshon writes frequently for numerous publications, and her articles have appeared in the ABC, The Sydney Morning Herald, and The Australian.
Prior to joining Human Rights Watch, Gavshon spent ten years working at the Justice and Equity Centre (formerly the Public Interest Advocacy Centre) where she founded the Truth and Accountability program. There, she led human rights and war crimes investigations and a landmark project mapping laws and policies affecting First Nations people in Australia. She has specialised expertise in the laws of war and human rights investigations. Gavshon holds degrees in law and arts from the University of Sydney and obtained her Master’s degree in law from the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights.
