Hayden Cooper

Hayden Cooper has been the ABC's Middle East correspondent since November, 2013.Prior to that he was a reporter at 7.30, and spent six years based in the federal parliamentary press gallery.

Since joining the ABC in 2001 he has covered the Japanese tsunami, the Boston Marathon bombing, and his Inside West Papua reports won two gold medals at the New York Film Awards in 2013. Hayden is the winner of the 2014 Lowy Institute Media Award.

And annoyingly for a journalist, I found myself far removed – sitting down for dinner at a home in southern Beirut. Around the table was a senior commander from Hezbollah, and the former leader of the Shiite Amal militia. 'It was an excellent attack, very well done', the two men agreed.
