Lucy Haley

Lucy Haley is the Publications Director at Young Australians in International Affairs (YAIA), where she leads the development of policy-relevant content and oversees the Fellowships program and Insights blog. In this role, she works to elevate emerging voices and foster informed debate in the field of international affairs.

She holds a Master of International Relations (Conflict and Security), a Bachelor of Arts in Middle East and Spanish Studies, and a Diploma of Arabic. Lucy has gained professional experience through an internship with the Embassy of Ecuador in Australia and New Zealand, where she supported diplomatic engagement and policy-focused initiatives, as well as through an international internship with NaTakallam, contributing to language-based education programs for refugees and asylum seekers.

She was also selected for the Women in Security Policy Program, delivered by the Australian National University in partnership with the Defence Studies Centre, reflecting her strong research and policy capabilities.

Lucy’s interests lie at the intersection of national security and language, with a particular focus on how linguistic and cultural understanding shapes global security outcomes. Her perspective is informed by extensive travel across the Middle East, South Asia, and the Americas, which continues to shape her approach to international affairs.
