I was telling an American friend recently that, speaking as someone who came to this country from a much colder northern hemisphere climate, I always feel most Australian around Christmas time. Christmas and summer just go together, and I can't wait to experience it all again — the feeling of sand between the toes, the smell of the barbeque, cricket on the radio.

Paul Kelly's melancholy 'How to make gravy' captures beautifully the spirit of an Australian Christmas.

Compliments of the season, everyone. Normal blogging resumes early in the new year.
