Genocide: Words and action

16 November 2009 13:21

On 9 November the quintet of Attorneys-General (from Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the US and UK) met in London. In their communique they recognised 'that there is scope for all five countries to work together more closely...to coordinate action across relevant agencies against...perpetrators of genocide'.

There is no doubt there is a lot more they could do to develop common systems and efficient information exchange mechanisms, but genocide is not even a crime under Australian law if it was committed before 2002, so there is some very basic work to do on the home front too.
