Lowy Institute's loss is ONA's gain

14 April 2009 22:17

It's been an open secret around Canberra for some weeks, but the Prime Minister's office has now confirmed that Lowy Institute Executive Director Allan Gyngell has been appointed to be the next Director-General of the Office of National Assessments, Australia's senior intelligence agency.

Apart from his many other achievements over the last five years, it was Allan's idea for the Lowy Institute to start a blog, so I am enormously grateful to him for that. I hope Fergus and I and everyone else involved with The Interpreter can repay Allan's commitment to the idea by building an ever more interesting, informative and innovative blog.

It will be great to know that we have one more influential Interpreter reader in Canberra. Best of luck, Allan.
