  • The Royal Navy's Type 45 destroyer program has reached the half-way mark, with the handover of HMS Diamond to the Royal Navy in Portsmouth.

  • Well known China academics Toshi Yoshihara and James R Holmes from the US Naval War College have written a new book, to be published next month — Red Star Over the Pacific: China's Rise and the Challenge to US Maritime Strategy. The topic is timely, particularly noting that President Obama met last week with leaders from ASEAN, to discuss the South China Sea.
  • Off China, Australian ship HMAS Warramunga has completed the most advanced exercise yet conducted with the PLA-N, including live firings.
  • In a nice piece of synergy, two PLA-N warships visiting Sydney sailed last Friday in company with HMAS Sydney for a day of exercising off the Australian coast.
