  • China ready to talk to Taiwan about a trade deal.
  • I never thought about it like this: 'The U.S. essentially is borrowing money from China for use to defend Japan from China.'
  • Cool blog: Iconic photos.
  • Speaking of photos, the NY Times does some exceptional photo essays, and this one on pollution in China is stunning.
  • On last Friday's subject of strange policing mottoes, Rory Medcalf tells me the Delhi police promise to be 'with you, for you, always', a motto some locals no doubt find at odds with that force's reputation for heavy-handedness and corruption.
  • Regarding last week's discussion about communist symbols in popular culture, I didn't know until reading this that there's actually a bar in Sydney named after Lenin.
  • A successful electric car industry could turn the oil economy on its head. The early signs for the technology are good, but I couldn't resist the symbolism of this photo showing a crash in Denmark (no one was seriously hurt) — a Prius hybrid rear-ended an all-electric Tesla sports car, which got jammed beneath a seemingly untouched SUV gas-guzzler. Score one for the petrol-heads.
