Our imminent Olympic glory

Via China Rises, I see PricewaterhouseCoopers has released a projection of the number of medals various countries are likely to win at the upcoming Olympics. According to PwC, medal count is largely determined by population and income levels, but there are anomalies:

...despite it being nearly two decades since the fall of the Berlin Wall, many former Eastern bloc countries are expected to win significantly more medals than would be predicted by the size of their economies. The benefits of these countries’ earlier “planned” approach to Olympic sport were still evident in their Sydney and Athens medal tallies and this is expected to continue in Beijing.

Of course you don't need to be an ex-Communist country to implement Eastern bloc-style state planning for Olympic sports. Notice any countries in the top five that look a little out of place in terms of their economic size? Ahem.
