Pacific Island links: Xi and Modi visit Fiji, Solomons elections, PNG corruption and more

  • Chinese President Xi Jinping is traveling to Fiji following the G20 summit to meet with Pacific Island leaders. Philippa Brant was interviewed on Pacific Beat about what this might mean for Chinese aid to the region. 
  • Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also be visiting Fiji to meet with regional leaders. It's the first visit by an Indian PM since Indira Gandhi visited Fiji in 1981. 
  • Jason Sharman spoke to Pacific Beat ahead of this week's G20 about the proposed rules that could see Pacific politicians denied entry to Australia if they are even suspected of corruption. 
  • Again on Pacific Beat, Clive Moore discusses the candidates contesting next week's elections in Solomon Islands, explaining the implications of the recently-passed Political Parties Integrity Bill.
