Don Deakin-Bell responds to Justin Jones' piece about the fate of Britain's Royal Navy (RN):

11 years ago the RN had 39 Frigates and Destroyers, 3 carriers, Sea Harriers and the capability for power projection as a middle power. As a result of the Defence Review the RN will have 19 Destroyers and Frigates, no carriers until late in the decade and no fix wing aircraft, a loss of skill sets and a major reduction in amphibious capabilities and sea patrol ability, all at a time when mission requirements are high. If the first requirement of a government is National Security, what is this Government doing'  Are we back to abandoning anything East of Suez and what are the implications for far flung UK possessions like the Falklands, Gibraltar and the rest.
