Responding to my recent post about how infrastructure-poor Sydney’s proposed metro seems to be modelled on Delhi’s new transit system, and in particular my comment that a Sydney Morning Herald report carried a photograph of the Delhi metro (editor's note: we can't find the photo online), Tristan Rendall writes:

Sorry to be pedantic, however I believe the station and train in the picture was actually from Singapore, not Delhi.

Tristan, you are not pendantic, just right. I have to confess that having just visited Delhi and been impressed by its metro, I was struck with an instant sense of recognition on seeing the carriage, station and its twist on the old Underground symbol. Having recently also been in Singapore, I should have thought twice, of course – although the designs of the carriages and stations are not dissimiliar.

Still, this all reinforces a few of my messages. First, that Australian cities are falling behind quite a few major Asian ones in transport infrastructure. And second, New South Wales is behind the times in trumpeting the ‘Euro’ character of its Sydney transit solution. Instead, it should proudly be proclaiming the Asian-ness of having a decent metro.
