If you've committed genocide, mass rape or serious human rights violations and you live in Australia, the good times just keep rolling.

In the latest Senate hearings, Senator Ludlam quizzed Labor on progress in meeting its 2007 promise to close 'major gaps in Australia's domestic laws that allow such accused [war] criminals to enter and live here without fear of prosecution' (that being the Labor Party's way of putting it).

The response' The best he got was this: 'Australia has an established framework...The Department is considering options to further strengthen this framework.'

It's good to see at least one Senator continues to push for Australia to catch up with other countries in closing these legal loopholes and take the issue seriously. But judging from this response, he'll need to plug away at this for some time to come.
