  • Re. Anthony's suggestion that the Iranian protest reveals, finally, a useful purpose for Twitter: the service was due to go down for maintenance yesterday, but the US State Department intervened. Meanwhile, international journalists are ordered out of Iran.
  • The Economist gives the UN Secretary-General a 3/10 for speaking truth to power and 2/10 for management skills. He scores better on the bigger picture (8/10) and keeping the peace (6/10).
  • Thai stimulus: the government is just giving money away to political parties it likes. (H/t Marginal Revolution.)
  • Sarkozy booed at Bongo's funeral.  
  • The Paris Air Show has now started, but there was Franco-American political intrigue before it even opened. Full coverage here.
  • BRIC countries held their first formal summit yesterday in Yekaterinburg, Russia where they called for 'a move away from the dollar's role in global commerce and a call for greater representation of developing countries in global financial institutions.' The Russians also hosted the Shanghai Cooperation Organization meeting, with President Hu Jintao promising $US10 billion in aid to the Central Asian states in the group.
