I'm not going to spend an awful lot of space taking you through the new features of the blog. There are a few, but since (I'm guessing here) 90% of you don't read the instructions when you get a new iPhone or laptop, you're not going to waste a whole lot of time reading about how to operate something that will hopefully be pretty instinctual anyway.

Most of the changes are cosmetic and superficial, but that's in no way to minimise it — design plays a crucial part in how you, the reader, digest the information and opinion presented here.

When we decided to redesign The Interpreter I was ready to do something completely radical and different, but as you can see, we've ended up with more of a face-lift than a Face/Off. And that's perfectly fine with me. It speaks to the strength of the original design, and in particular the wonderful banner image that now seems inseparable from The Interpreter's identity.

So, hope you like, and please let us know if you don't. I'll publish any interesting and constructive feedback you have, and will consider making changes if you can convince me they are needed.

My thanks to Nik, Will and Stephen at Twisted Pear, who have been unfailingly professional throughout this redesign process. Twisted Pear are responsible for the design inspiration and for making the blog actually work at the back end, but any faults or flaws with the new site are my doing.

Blogging will be slow for most of the day, as I'm in a conference.
