Warief Djajanto Basorie

Warief Djajanto Basorie was a reporter for the Indonesian National News Agency, KNI, in Jakarta from 1971 to 1991. At the same time, he was correspondent for Manila-based DepthNews Asia (DNA 1974-91) that reported on Asian development. DNA was a proponent of development journalism. 

In 1991, Warief joined the Dr. Soetomo Press Institute, LPDS, a journalism school in Jakarta. He was an instructor and organiser of thematic journalism workshops. Themes included AIDS, the environment, and the climate crisis. He was project manager of three cycles of covering climate workshops from 2012 to 2017. More than 600 journalists participated in Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi and Papua, areas prone to carbon-emitting forest and peatland fires. He is now semi-retired.
