Lowy Institute announces event partnership with National Gallery of Victoria

The Lowy Institute today announced an innovative event partnership with the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV).

The two year partnership will designate the NGV as the home of Lowy Institute events in Melbourne.  The gallery will host the Lowy Institute at NGV event program, which will provide a platform for Victorians to interact with experts on the trends shaping Australia and the world.

‘I am very proud to announce this exciting partnership between two of Australia’s leading ‘ideas’ institutions’, said Dr Michael Fullilove, Executive Director of the Lowy Institute.

‘The NGV, as a world-class curator of art, culture, and ideas, is a natural fit for the Lowy Institute in our efforts to examine the big issues shaping global politics and provide fresh ideas for Australian decision-makers’.

The series will include speeches and panel events with a wide range of international and Australian foreign policy experts. The inaugural event on 25 May will feature a discussion with acclaimed Chinese journalist Xue Xinran and the Lowy Institute’s East Asia Program Director Merriden Varrall on how China’s one child policy has affected its social, economic and political landscape.

Future events include an examination of Australian attitudes to foreign policy issues, as documented in the 2015 Lowy Institute Poll, and a lecture on Australia-India relations from the Lowy Institute’s 2015 Telstra Distinguished International Fellow Shyam Saran.

'We look forward to collaborating with the Lowy Institute and partnering the gallery’s highly acclaimed contemporary art exhibitions with the Institute’s new event series in Melbourne', said NGV Director Tony Ellwood.
