Antje Missbach is Professor of Sociology at Bielefeld University, specialising in Migration and Mobility Studies, first and foremost in the Asia-Pacific region. She co-leads the Maritime Refugee Lab, as a research-based attempt to help overcome the terracentricity inherent to Refugee Studies. Her latest books include The Criminalisation of People Smuggling in Indonesia and Australia: Asylum out of Reach (2022) and a co-edited collection on Refugee Protection in Southeast Asia: Between Humanitarianism and Sovereignty (2024).
