Biography

Professor Akiko Fukushima is a Research Fellow at the Asia International Centre and a Senior Fellow at the Tokyo Foundation. She has a Master’s degree in International Economy and International Relations from: Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University and a PhD in International Public Policy from Osaka University. She has previously held roles as Director of Policy Studies at the National Institute for Research Advancement (NIRA) and as Senior Fellow at the Japan Foundation. She is a member of the International Advisory Board of the EU-Asia Centre in Brussels and co-editor of Global Governance magazine. She has also been a visiting professor at the University of British Columbia and is a member of Prime Minister Abe’s Advisory Panel on National Security and Defence Capabilities.
