Ross Garnaut is one of Australia’s foremost public intellectuals. In 2008 he produced the Garnaut Climate Change Review for the Australian government, as well as an update of the review in 2011. He was previously a principal economic advisor to former Australian prime minister Bob Hawke and Australia’s ambassador to China in the late 1980s.
