The Allan Gyngell Lecture: Foreign Minister Senator Penny Wong
Please join us for the second Allan Gyngell Lecture. The Lecture will be delivered by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Senator the Hon Penny Wong, followed by a conversation with our Executive Director, Dr Michael Fullilove AM. There will also be an opportunity for audience Q&A.
The Gyngell Lecture honours the institute's first Executive Director Allan Gyngell AO (1947–2023). Allan joined the Department of External Affairs in 1969, with postings to Rangoon, Singapore and Washington, DC. He went on to head the International Division in the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet and served as international adviser to Prime Minister Paul Keating. Allan was the Executive Director of the Lowy Institute (2003–09) and later Director-General of the Office of National Assessments, Australia's peak intelligence analysis agency (2009–13). He was subsequently National President of the Australian Institute of International Affairs and an honorary professor in the ANU's College of Asia and the Pacific.
