Research program
Research and insights on India’s rising geopolitical power and what it means for the region.
The India Chair produces independent research on India’s emergence as a global strategic actor. In a region marked by great power competition and a volatile order in transition, India’s choices on defence, technology, trade, and regional architecture have consequences that extend well beyond South Asia. The Chair aims to deepen the conversation on these issues and bring sharp insights to the fast-evolving Australia–India relationship.
The Chair’s research spans India’s foreign and security policy, its engagement in the Indo-Pacific, and the Australia–India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. It also examines India–China relations, India’s role in multilateral and minilateral frameworks such as the Quad, and its stake in emerging domains including critical minerals, AI governance, and energy security.
The Chair is funded through a Maitri Grant administered by the Centre for Australia–India Relations.
