Lowy Institute chairs roundtable discussion with US Secretary of Defense & Australian Minister for Defence.

On 11 August, the Lowy Institute for International Policy co-hosted a roundtable discussion in Sydney with US Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel and Australian Minister for Defence, Senator David Johnston, as a prelude to this year's AUSMIN consultations between the two allies.

Experts from a range of Australian institutions took part in a frank discussion with Secretary Hagel and Senator Johnston on key strategic issues, including an exchange of views and assessments on Indo-Pacific security and alliance matters.

The event, co-hosted with the United States Studies Centre, was attended also by senior policy-makers, military leaders and several corporate leaders.
