Andrew Quilty began his career at Fairfax Media in Sydney in 2005, but it was a trip to Afghanistan in 2013 that altered his path indefinitely. He has been based in Kabul, the Afghan capital, since, and has worked across two thirds of the country’s 34 provinces for many of the world’s leading news outlets. For his work in Afghanistan, Quilty has received awards from World Press Photo, Picture of the Year International, Bayeux Calvados-Normandy for War Correspondents, George Polk, and the Walkley Foundation, including, in 2016, the Gold Walkley, the highest honour in Australian journalism. Quilty will soon launch a podcast dedicated to the future of Afghanistan after 20 years of American-led military presence.
