According to a new survey published by Ipsos MORI, 71% of people in China measure success by the things they own:

The Global Trends Survey — 16,000 people in 20 countries, conducted online between 3 and 17 September 2013 — found optimism for the year ahead highest in India, Canada, Australia and China. Being an online survey, Ipsos MORI recognises that 'results in developing countries should be viewed as representative of a more affluent and “connected” population'.
