Paul Farrell on Guardian Australia's Lowy Institute Media Award nomination
Guardian Australia is nominated for the 2017 Lowy Institute Media Award for its reporting on two thousand leaked incident reports written by staff at Australia’s detention centre in Nauru between 2013 and 2015. Dubbed ‘The Nauru Files’, the reports detailed allegations of assault, sexual abuse and self-harm. Guardian Australia broke the story in a series of reports and web interactives.
Paul Farrell was until recently a reporter at Guardian Australia, where he was the lead reporter on ‘The Nauru Files’. He is now senior reporter at BuzzFeed Australia, writing on issues concerning national security and immigration.
Ben Doherty is a reporter at Guardian Australia and has won three Walkley Awards for his foreign affairs and immigration reporting.
Helen Davidson reports from the Northern Territory for Guardian Australia.
Nick Evershed is the data and interactives editor at Guardian Australia.
