The Lowy Institute launched the 2025 edition of the Asia Power Index on Tuesday 9 December 2025 at the State Library of Victoria.
Launch of the Asia Power Index 2025
The event included a panel discussion convened by Lydia Khalil, the Director of the Lowy Institute’s Transnational Challenges Program. She was joined by Susannah Patton, Project Lead for the Asia Power Index, Richard McGregor, Senior Fellow for East Asia at the Lowy Institute, and Professor Bec Strating, Director of the La Trobe Centre for Global Security.
They discussed the key findings from the 2025 Asia Power Index and reflected on the broader geopolitical trends in the region, including the impact of President Trump’s second term and the coordinated efforts of authoritarian powers.
