Donald Trump and the West: A conversation with Dr John Hamre and Dr Michael Fullilove
Trump, the Western Alliance and Australia's Strategic Outlook: A Conversation with Dr John Hamre
As President Trump prepares to take centre stage at the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Canada, the state of the Western alliance has rarely been more uncertain — or more consequential for Australia.
In this special Lowy Institute conversation, Dr John Hamre — President and CEO of the Center for Strategic and International Studies and former US Deputy Secretary of Defence — joined Executive Director Dr Michael Fullilove AM to assess Trump's record, his approach to managing alliances with traditional Western partners, and what it all means for Australia's strategic outlook.
The discussion offered a timely preview of the Kananaskis Summit, where Prime Minister Anthony Albanese joined the leaders of major Western powers alongside President Trump, and examined the choices facing Australia as it navigates an increasingly unpredictable relationship with its most important security ally. The conversation included questions from the audience.
