Dr Michael Green is a Nonresident Fellow at the Lowy Institute. He is Senior Vice President for Asia and Japan Chair at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, DC, and is Associate Professor of International Relations at the Georgetown University Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service. He previously served in government as Director and then Senior Director for Asian Affairs and Special Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs on the National Security Council Staff (2001-2005). Dr Green's research and publications cover U.S. strategy in Asia, Japanese foreign policy, the Korean peninsula, U.S. diplomatic history, Burma, Tibet and institution-building in the Asia Pacific region. He speaks Japanese and is a champion highland piper.
